IAPA Asia Pacific has organised a video interaction amongst its members on Tuesday, 18th August 2020 at 4 pm Singapore Time. The topic is "Frugal Technology".

Talk by CA Guru Prasad on Frugal Technology
Mr Guru Prasad is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) . He is the founder of M/s Guru & Jana, Chartered Accountants. He is also involved in other organisations as follows:

• Founder of Vardaan - A boutique Social responsibility advisory firm, with JV with Raffa, USA
• Founder of Pathway - Angel Investment Fund
• Trustee of IIM B Alumni Trust
• Independent director in several Corporates
• Member of Auditing Standards Board
• Author of God in the Boardroom, Banter beyond the buck & 8 technical Guides issued by ICAI.

A short note on FRUGAL TECHNOLOGY:
Technology has created a level playing ground, apart from the advantages of internet, we as firms would need to implement technology in a faster pace than ever before. Covid need not be the reason to take a foray or deep dive. Yet the 3 questions which we ponder as we dip into the world of technology implementation, which requires clarity are

1. Technology has to be affordable, with dwindling audit and tax margins, investing tons of money on technology is becoming difficult – so it has to be frugal
2. Implementation time should be short, in the current pressures of global compliance deadlines, months to invest on a implementation team is not affordable – so can tech be implemented in the shortest span of time
3. What could be the technology services which could prop up our revenue streams, those we can render as an Accounting professional

His presentation would not talk about the latest trends of the world of block chain or robotic software, because seldom small firms can fathom to implement these, so his talk would be centred around domestic firms which should take leap frog steps, but there are miles to reach before we touch base on AI.
