With a population of nearly 130 million people, a rich cultural history, great diversity and a favourable geography with abundant natural resources, Mexico is one of the fifteen largest economies in the world and the second largest in Latin America. The country has strong macroeconomic institutions, open trade policies and a diversified manufacturing base integrated into global value chains.

Mexico is considered one of the most open economies in the world, with limited trade restrictions. Mexico has access to 50 countries through its mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Mexico's FTA with the Pacific Alliance accounts for 41% ($2,707) of Latin America and the Caribbean's GDP. On the other hand, Mexico's FTA with the European Union (EU) accounted for 22.9% ($19,974) of world GDP. Meanwhile, the USMCA accounts for $24,440, or 28% of world GDP. Finally, Mexico's FTA with CPTPP shares 12.9% ($11,262) of total world GDP.

Mexico was the second largest economy in Latin America, after Brazil, with a total GDP of $1,268,870 billion. However, despite its second place, it is considered the leading exporter in the entire Latin American region. One third (1/3) of Latin America's total exports come from Mexico.
