The UK’s leading association of independent chartered accountants and law firms has placed a Teesside firm among the top practices in the country.

Stockton-based Baines Jewitt Chartered Accountants scored very highly in the UK200Group’s External Quality Control Review, keeping the North East firm within the top tier of accountancy practices in the UK.

Adoption of the UK200Group standards, along with the high placing, means Baines Jewitt adheres to stringent quality control over its work. As part of the UK200Group review, professional work is analysed and graded against a numerical scale from 1 to 5 for both compliance and efficiency, where ‘1’ denotes ‘excellent’ or ‘very efficient’. Baines Jewitt received ratings of 1 and 2 across all areas earlier this year.

Among the processes scrutinised and scored were accounts preparation; audit regulations and standards; investment business; controls and tax work.

“We are delighted to receive such praise. Each score confirms that Baines Jewitt operates its systems in compliance with UK200Group standards,” explains Jed Lester, director, Baines Jewitt Ltd.

“We are a well-established firm, with a long history and a good reputation. However, to be able to demonstrate that we are using the most up-to-date and efficient methods will give additional peace of mind to those we work with, who include individuals, not-for-profit organisations, limited companies and partnerships.

“We spend a lot of time analysing the businesses of our clients, whether it’s their management systems, business models, costs or long term goals. It is therefore good to know that when scrutinised by an independent professional body, our own processes score very highly across all areas.”
